From State Vision to District Implementation
NY Inspires is reshaping graduation around the Portrait of a Graduate, learning experiences, assessment requirements, and one diploma. Districts are now building the capacity to bring that vision into instruction and local assessment.
Portrait of a Graduate Adopted
New York completed the planning phase and established its statewide Portrait of a Graduate.

How does PoG show up in an existing unit? · What evidence should students produce?
How is it assessed consistently? · How do leaders know it's taking hold?

Ready-to-Use New York Starting Points
A Progressive Path to Practice and Leadership
NY Inspires is not a one-time workshop. The Belt System creates a voluntary, progressive path from awareness to demonstrated practice, integration, and leadership.

White Belt — Aware
Understands the foundations of PoG, performance-based assessment, and project-based learning.

Yellow Belt — Applies
Knows PoG and PBA vocabulary. Implements curriculum-embedded PoG tasks with AI support alongside them.

Green Belt — Integrates
Designs original tasks and rubrics without a template. Calibrates scoring reliably and leads independent project-based learning with students.

Black Belt — Leads
Builds on Green Belt practice by coaching and leading other educators, strengthening consistent practice, and helping scale the work across schools or districts.
The Belt System is a professional growth pathway, not a teacher evaluation system. Belt progress is separate from APPR and is not submitted as part of any evaluation rating. Educators build a portfolio of their own practice, at their own pace.
Build the conditions that help educator practice stick.
Leadership development runs alongside educator growth, helping district teams align priorities, strengthen coaching, and sustain implementation.
Strategic Planning
Align leadership teams around implementation priorities and next steps.
Administrator Coaching
Help leaders support educators through change with non-punitive coaching.
Structural Readiness
Examine district structures such as scheduling, assessment,
evidence, and implementation conditions.
Sustainable Implementation
Build internal capacity to support and expand effective practice across schools.
One connected workspace.
A clearer path from planning to proof.
Start with the curriculum teachers already use, create meaningful opportunities for students to demonstrate learning, and carry that evidence forward into assessment, portfolios, and districtwide insight.

Embed PoG in Existing Curriculum
Curriculum Genie embeds PoG intentionally within the unit's learning sequence — not as a separate initiative or an add-on project. PoG comes into the planning process early, so teachers design where and how students will practice key competencies inside the standards-aligned learning experiences that already exist in the unit.
The competency work was already happening. Curriculum Genie makes it visible.
Build Standards + PoG Performance Tasks
NY Inspires shifts the focus from test-based graduation requirements toward multiple ways for students to demonstrate what they know and can do. Curriculum Genie helps educators create performance-based learning experiences aligned to academic standards and PoG competencies from the start—from lightweight practice within a lesson to deeper unit-level assessments and flexible standalone performance task.
Mini Masteries
Turn an existing lesson into a lightweight, focused Mini Mastery that gives students frequent opportunities to practice and demonstrate PoG competencies.

Unit-Level Performance Assessments
Build a deeper performance assessment from an existing unit, bringing academic standards and PoG competencies together in one coherent learning experience. Students apply what they have learned through a more sustained challenge, producing richer evidence of both academic mastery and competency growth while staying connected to the learning already underway in the unit.
12 Performance Task Types for Authentic Learning
Authentic evidence looks different across subjects and disciplines. Curriculum Genie supports 12 performance task types designed for use across the curriculum—from PE and the arts to science, computer science, humanities, and CTE—so teachers in every subject can create meaningful ways for students to demonstrate academic learning and PoG competencies. Educators can also create custom performance tasks when another format better fits their learning goals.
By making authentic performance possible across disciplines, Curriculum Genie helps make performance-based assessment a schoolwide practice—not something limited to core academic subjects.

Build Student Agency Through Co-Creation
Curriculum Genie supports open-ended, student-directed projects — where students help define the central question, decide how learning will be explored and demonstrated, and take genuine ownership of their evidence and portfolio.
Teachers provide the structure, maintain rigor, and guide the work. Students own the direction.
Work with Students to Collect Multimodal Evidence
Students know what they are working toward. A guided workflow shows success criteria before submission — so every piece of work is purposeful, not just completed.
Students can submit evidence as text, images, or audio. Educators monitor progress in real time and step in before students get stuck—not after the task is done.
Every performance task produces authentic, portfolio-ready evidence—captured intentionally from the start.

AI-Assisted Evaluation, Educator Final Judgment
AI evaluates each submission against shared academic and PoG rubrics, generating ratings, next steps for students, and instructional guidance for teachers. Teachers review and finalize every result, retaining professional judgment while strengthening scoring consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Curriculum Genie is designed to build on the curriculum and instructional practices already in place. Districts can bring existing units into the workspace and gradually strengthen alignment with PoG competencies, performance tasks, and evidence collection—without starting over or replacing everything at once.
AI supports educators; it does not replace professional judgment. Curriculum Genie can evaluate student evidence against shared academic and PoG rubrics, surface suggested ratings and next steps, and provide instructional guidance. Teachers review and finalize the results, helping reduce manual scoring while maintaining educator oversight and improving consistency across classrooms.
The goal is not to add another layer of work. Teachers start with the curriculum they already use and gradually introduce focused PoG and performance-based learning experiences rather than redesigning everything at once. Curriculum Genie supports alignment, task and rubric design, evidence collection, and AI-assisted evaluation, while ongoing professional learning and coaching help educators build confidence over time.
