Portrait of a Graduate:
From Vision to Classroom Practice

Everyone has the vision. Few have the practice.

The hard part is embedding it into the classroom, and reaching meaningful assessment of competencies. Curriculum Genie turns your learner profile into performance tasks, student-facing success criteria, and scored evidence, built into the standards-based units.

Good to know

Portrait of a Graduate, answered.

What is a Portrait of a Graduate?
A Portrait of a Graduate (or Portrait of a Learner) is your district's shared vision of the competencies every student should graduate with, such as communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. The hard part isn't writing it. It's embedding those competencies into daily instruction and assessing them meaningfully.
Is a Portrait of a Learner the same as a Portrait of a Graduate?
Yes, they are the same idea under different names. Portrait of a Graduate is the term most districts and states use nationally; Portrait of a Learner is common in California. Both describe the competencies a student should leave school with, and Curriculum Genie supports either framework.
How does Curriculum Genie help implement a Portrait of a Graduate?
Curriculum Genie operationalizes a Portrait of a Graduate in three steps: units embed specific PoG traits in daily instruction; students build Multi-Measure Portfolios with authentic artifacts; and administrators access district-wide PoG dashboards. It moves the Portrait from poster to practice, with evidence at every level.
Is Curriculum Genie evidence-based?
Yes. Curriculum Genie is the first ESSA Tier 3 evidence-based agentic AI curriculum platform, validated by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Research and Reform in Education. It is also CAST UDL 3.0 certified, holds the ISTE Seal, and is used by 200+ districts and 50,000+ educators.
